Wild Seed Mixtures

Composition:  The composition of our meadow and grassland mixtures (EM1 to EM10) is based on traditional 'old meadows' and other semi-natural grasslands.  Wild grass species form the structure of these communities, and perennial wild flower species like knapweed, birdsfoot trefoil, plantain and buttercups are characteristic components.  Our mixtures are composed of 20% native wild flowers and 80% slow growing grasses (by weight).  Our mixtures for shade (EH1 and EW1), and for pond edges (EP1) also follow this pattern of 80% grass and 20% flowers, although individual sites may require an alternative balance of grass to flowers, or even 100% flowers.

The flower and grass components of all our standard mixtures are available separately, for example EM1(F) are the flowers from EM1, and EG1 are the grasses.  This allows the balance of flowers to grasses to be varied to suit circumstances or budget, or for alternative combinations such as EM3(F) with EG5 to be created.

Seed Origin:  Throughout our mixture range all wild flower seed is of British native wild origin.  We have also used native wild origin grass seed where possible.  If this the case the grass name is followed by '(w)'.

Sowing Rates:  Please refer to the table for sowing rates for each mixture.  Our general recommended sowing rate for meadow mixtures is 40kg/Ha (16 kg/acre) or 4g per square metre.

Mixtures may be ordered in any quantity from 100g upwards.  Quantities up to one kilo are priced at the 100g rate, up to 10 kilos at the kilo rate, up to 100 kilos at the 10 kilo rate, and over 100 kilos at the 100 kilo rate.
